flash back

knew the guy, he's interesting but to weird for me...well, sorry. It's more the topic he's into. I just can't get myself to be all exicted about MUDs and MOOs. And: Yes! I AM prejudiced. So what? What are you gonna do about it?
:-)
Anyway: thats his dissertation project. What could be interesting though is his definition of cyberanthropology. Well, we'll see.

cyberanthropology definition et al.

Ha! -- too weird ... that's the greatest compliment, tnx a lot ;-) Anyway, I just wanted to drop in for some slight corrections (after which my project may be more interesting to you -- hopefully). You can not get yourself to be all excited about MUDs and MOOs; neither can I. My project is all about the online community, whose members' shared core interest is modifying the games "Max Payne" and "Max Payne 2". Both games are third-person shooters, not role-playing games; they even lack multiplayer capability. So there is no social interaction inside the gamespace/world as supposed in MMOGs and the like. The interaction of 'my tribe' happens via a multitude of diverse Internet-services and web-applications.

Maxmod isn't my dissertation-project, as my PhD already is history for quite some time. Meanwhile my dissertation called "Metatrickster" (written in German) is published (under a CC-licence), and you can download it for free here, if you like:
http://www.fak12.uni-muenchen.de/vka/Publikationen/Alteritas.html#Metatrickster

To gain the 'right' to become a full professor, the PhD is not enough in Germany. You have to do another, bigger, better, andwhatyouhave project, called "Habilitation". That's what 'maxmod' is for. I try to make the project as visible as possible online via the website ( http://xirdal.lmu.de ) and my weblog (see below).

Tnx for the kind words on my work-in-progress attempt of a definition of 'cyberanthropology'. I am organizing an according workshop on a conference in October, and you can have a look at the description (which is a shortened and slightly revised version of the cyberanthropology-definition) here:
http://xirdal.lmu.de/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi/2005/02/17#GAA05_cyberanthropology

Sorry for the unhandy URI, this will be changed.
Until then the URI of my weblog is:
http://xirdal.lmu.de/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi
I'll give you notice when the new URI is live.

I hope that you will find material of interest or even help at my website and blog. The ever-growing and 'augmented' list of literature may be especially worthwhile ( http://xirdal.lmu.de/appendices/literature.html ). The website has recently seen substantial technical changes and is more usable now, IMHO. More content and structure will follow.

Weird, but Best Wishes,
